Lesson Setup
Achieve good audio and video at home to ensure every nuance of your performance is captured.
1. Camera Placement & Angles
For effective teaching, I need to see your posture, hand shape, and the keyboard. A single front-facing laptop camera is often insufficient.
Hardware Recommendation: Manfrotto Pixi tripod
The Manfrotto Pixi Mini Tripod is the simple cheap tripod you can place on a table or a closet close to the piano. It can hold the phone easily with added accessory.
- 45° Side angle (Best for technique)
- Overhead view (Best for notes/reading)
2. Audio & Microphone Placement
Standard laptop mics compress the sound, making a grand piano sound like a toy. To capture the true fine-art storytelling of your playing, consider an external microphone.
For Grand Pianos
Place your microphone 1–1.5 meters away from the open lid. This captures the "bloom" of the instrument rather than just the mechanical noise of the hammers.
3. Zoom Settings for Musicians
Zoom's default settings are for speech. You must enable these for music:
- Original Sound for MusiciansEnable this in Audio Settings to stop Zoom from "filtering" your piano as background noise.
- High-Fidelity Music ModeIncreases the bit-rate for a much richer tonal experience.
- Disable Echo CancellationOnly do this if you are wearing headphones. It significantly improves sound quality.
